MARIANNA, Fla., Jan. 11, 2024 – Farm Credit of Northwest Florida announced a total of $18,500 awarded to five organizations working to improve rural communities within the Florida Panhandle. One recipient was the Waterfront Rescue Mission located in Pensacola, FL, which started in 1949 as a refuge for wayward fishermen and has grown into full-service missions in two cities (Pensacola, FL and Mobile, AL) dedicated to helping lift people out of homelessness, poverty, and addiction.
Another recipient was Feeding the Gulf Coast with a Florida Panhandle Branch in Milton, FL. Feeding the Gulf Coast’s vision is a hunger-free central Gulf coast, by providing a wide variety of hunger-relief programs to nourish our communities and establish stronger, healthier families. Other award recipients include Sleep in Heavenly Peace, the Monticello, FL chapter; Jackson County Jr. Cattlemen’s Association headquartered in Marianna, FL; and Second Harvest of the Big Bend headquartered in Tallahassee, FL.
“We are delighted to support these outstanding organizations and their work on behalf of the communities in the Pensacola area and surrounding counties,” said Farm Credit of Northwest Florida CEO John Gregory. “I am proud of our employees, who contribute donations that are matched by Farm Credit of Northwest Florida, to provide these staff-nominated awards to worthy recipients. Working together, we can help our communities remain strong and resilient.”
Additionally, food collected from the Farm Credit of Northwest Florida Food Drive was provided to Feeding the Gulf Coast and Second Harvest of the Big Bend, with the aim to help restock the shelves of area food banks after the Thanksgiving holiday and provide area families nutritious meals.
